Terrifying Caravan Road Trip in Northern NSW. (not recommended for beginners)
What was supposed to be an exciting caravan road trip to explore an outstanding place of beauty in the Northern NSW state forest, began as a dream journey but quickly turned into a nightmare when the road became too narrow to pass oncoming traffic. Towing a 21 foot (6.5 metre) caravan with a 45 foot (14 metre) overall length, including the tow vehicle was too much to manouvre on this extremely narrow road. One side of the road, a bank of solid rock, on the other side, up to a 100 foot drop.
And, once committed, there was no turning back as the narrow hand-carved tunnel came into sight. It was a 3,000 metre reverse to get to turn the car and caravan around.
This nightmarish journey through the Guy Fawkes Forest serves as a cautionary tale for those who seek adventure in the unknown. It reminds us that Australia really is still full of uncharted territory.
Buckle up for this adventure, which includes surrounded by three bushfires and on the drive, dodging cattle and a wild brumby.
