Nothing in the world stays the same. This is true even to Buddhist statues. A project starts to restore a Buddhist statue that was made 700 years ago in order to pass the baton from our ancestors to the future generations.

In 2020, we made a short doc “Three Restorers.” It tells a story about a Buddhist statue restoration unit, Sanjou-dou.
After the release, we continued filming them to understand their job more deeply. We followed one of their restoration projects from its early research phase to the completion. And finally, we managed to depict a whole process of Buddhist statue restoration in “The Art of Restoration.”
We’re proud that it expands the story of the first film, and we’d appreciate it if it could be an opportunity for viewers to gain a broader perspective about Buddhist Statue restoration.
