Modelers have been using ballast lamps for DCC circuit breakers for over 25 years now. The downside was the commonly used #1156 taillight bulb draws 2.5 amps and heats up a lot. Finally there is an improved circuit that uses the #2057 taillight bulb and a self resetting fuse which will operate at up to 2.5 amps, but when shorted, will after 30-40 seconds, drop down to a more reasonable 0.4 amps and run a lot cooler. In this video I'll show you how to build this quick and easy ballast lamp circuit for use on your model railroad and provide guidance on how to install them.
