The 2025 MG4 has well and truly made its presence felt since its arrival in 2022, with the small hatchback having helped to initiate a price war among entry-level fully electric cars from China, including the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora. But the truth is the MG models caters to a lot of wants and needs with its variant line-up, covering the budget-conscious all the way up to the high-performance enthusiasts.
In between, though, is the Essence 77kWh, which offers the longest driving range of any MG4, at a WLTP-rated 530km. Better yet, it's priced at $52,990 drive-away, which arguably makes it the best-value EV currently on sale in Australia, although Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive fans will likely argue that point.
Either way, in this expert long-term review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton spends two months living with the MG4 Essence 77kWh to find out how well it performs in the real world.
