SASSCAL is leading one of the 13 consortiums across Africa-(WeMAST) which are implementing the GMES and Africa support program jointly funded by the African Union and the European Union Commission. WeMAST which is an abbreviation of Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Service for Transboundary Basins in Southern Africa has made a significant impact in both Phase I and Phase II of the GMES and Africa.

Among the achievements include training the community, river-based organizations, key policy makers, students, government and non-government on Earth Observation data, access, validation and utilization for the benefit of societies across southern Africa.
The GMES and Africa dates back from 2017.
