"Kaichō-on," which translates to "Sound of the Sea Tide" or "The Sound of the Tides," stands as a remarkable Japanese anthology of European poetry meticulously curated by the celebrated writer Bin Ueda. This anthology, initially introduced to the world in October 1905, acts as a bridge that connects two distinct literary realms. Within its pages, it unveils the translated beauty of 57 poems composed by 29 diverse poets hailing from Germany, Italy, England, and beyond. Over the years, "Kaichō-on" has remained a cherished and enduring masterpiece.

At the core of "Kaichō-on" lies a captivating fusion of traditional and contemporary poetic styles. While some poems adhere to the classical rhythmic patterns of tanka and haiku, others boldly embrace the symbolism and innovative structures of the emerging symbolist movement. This anthology masterfully encapsulates the essence of European poetry, skillfully translating its diverse voices and styles into the rich fabric of the Japanese literary tradition.

We invite you to embark on a journey through the pages of "Kaichō-on," where the ebb and flow of poetic expression gracefully meet the shores of Japanese culture.
