After an aborted cruise from the Everglades to Marathon because of uncomfortable conditions encountered two hours in to the trip, Chris and I discuss our options. In the early days of boating one of us single handing the boat wasn't an option because of inexperience and safety concerns. After some frank discussions we decide together that Chris is capable of taking the last weather window for the week safely and confidently. We agree on bail out plans, communication and check ins. This discussion was the reason we subsequently ordered a garmin in reach, a device that would reach us before the Bahamas crossing. Chris did a fabulous job, and he respected my safety and check in plan so that I could do my part in keeping him safe, even though I wasn't on the boat.

I managed to find an uber driver willing to take me from Everglades City to Naples for a flat fee, where I had rented a car with a return location at Marathon airport. I took the opportunity to stop at Costco and start provisioning. After meeting up with Chris, we anchored for the night outside Boot Key Harbour and then he took Thataway the 20 miles to Bahai Honda in 3-4 foot beam seas. Bahai Honda was amazing and we'd go there again.

Single handing a boat should always be considered carefully with an honest appraisal of safety, abilities and checks and balances. Thanks for watching!
