Nihonmachi Outreach Committee's annual Day of Remembrance for 2024 was entitled YOUTH ACTIVISM: Building Community. Guest speakers Dr. Yvonne Kwan, associate professor SJSU and Nina Chuang, former SJSU AS President and CEO, spoke about the SJSU apology and resolution detailing the university's role in the assembly and deportation of local Japanese American citizens and JA students to internment camps. They also were given rousing applause when it was announced that SJSU will now have an Asian American Studies major.

In continuing support for our Muslim and Arab neighbors, and especially this year in light of the crisis in Palestine, statements were also given by Athar Siddiqee, South Bay Islamic Association and Samir Laymoun of the Palestinian Heritage Committee. The event also featured 10 Guests of Honor who were incarcerees in America's concentration camps as well as the annual candlelight procession through Japantown . The evening was again closed out with an energetic performance by San Jose Taiko.
