For many antiquarians, historians and "experts", it's a given that human sacrifice was practiced on the islands of Britain in prehistoric times.

But how certain can we be about this? In this video we look at the far-reaching impact of records written by those with an agenda: Julius Caesar - with his account of the wicker man - Strabo and Tacitus. We look at one of the most famous victims of sacrificial ritual: Lindow Man - or Pete Marsh to his friends. He's just one of many bog bodies discovered across northern Europe, that for some, answer the question categorically.

Is it a done deal? Is the evidence conclusive, or are there other explanations? Did the Celts kill people as ritual in the Bronze and Iron ages?

We visit three locations to tell this story. Two fascinating prehistoric settlements on Winderwath Common in Westmorland (Cumbria, in new money). On the edge of Great Asby Scar, we ponder about whether the inhabitants of these remote homesteads lived in a world were human sacrifice was a thing.

Lindow Moss in Cheshire - on the edge of Wilmslow - is where Pete Marsh was discovered in the 1980s. Pressed into the water 2,000 years ago, whilst still alive. It's an evocative place.

We'll be interested to hear what you think.
