I followed the white cat, of course. It seemed to be taking me to the source of this deafening 808 sound in the distance. Sure enough, we ended up at the entrance to some kind of temple, an all interwoven blue and white ceramic structure. It was visibly shaking from the sound but I knew this was the place I needed to be. I stepped up to an entryway that seemed to beckon me. A massive door slid open and my cat friend did not hesitate. I joined the cat inside, where yet another doorway seemed to invite me in.

There it was: an elevator in the middle of a wide open empty ballroom. I looked up but the column of the elevator seemed to stretch to an infinite height. I stepped inside and the cat jumped up on me as the door closed. At first I thought the cat might have been frightened, scratching at my back, but it simply wanted to climb up and sit on my shoulder. I petted it. We had become so close already. For some reason, I knew we could trust each other.

Suddenly, I felt lightheaded. In red digits, the elevator floor number display was flying into the hundreds, then thousands. I didn’t even want to think about how high up I must have been. The numbers started to slow, and I leaned against the side of the elevator for support. My cat purred. A subtle bell dinged as we hit Floor 7474. The door eased open.

Evidently, we had found the source of the sound. Here was the origin of that ear-splitting 808. It was shifting my organs around. I could barely move, it was like some kind of pressure storm on an alien planet. I felt like Kanye in the “Stronger” video where he’s mimicking that one hospital hallway scene from Akira and he’s got all those bandages on and he’s just trying to walk. My cat was strangely unaffected by any of this.

I stepped forward into what looked like a hotel room. Not even a super nice one. Like a suite at the Marriott or something. Nothing crazy. And in front of me, a tall dark figure stood at what appeared to be an MPC. This had to be an NBA player or something. If it isn’t, he should at least try out. He had to be at least 6’7”. The figure was tapping at one of the MPC pads and generating this massive, earth-shattering sound.

“Hello?” I ventured.

I stepped closer, cautiously.

I tried to scream over the noise: “Hello! Uh.... Do you know why I’m here?!?!”

All of a sudden the sound diffused into nothingness. It was terrifying. I wasn’t prepared for the silence.

Then the figure turned around to face me.

He looked exactly like Kenny Beats.

“Welcome,” he said. “My bad, was that loud?”

Before I could answer, he continued: “I see you’ve met my cat.”
