Todd Nauck, fan favorite comic book artist talks about the Spider-Man cartoon that got him into comic book fandom, and eventually into comic book art!

Yes, for Todd Nauck, it wasn't the comic book itself, but Spider Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon that made him get into collecting comic books. Yes, in the early 80s, a young Todd Nauck was exposed to the Marvel Universe through the amazing Spider Friends cartoon, an often overlooked gem from Spider-Man cartoon/animation history!

While many a Spider-Man comic book artist in the past downplayed the impact of cartoon animation on the comic book success, here is a clear case of the cartoon bringing a lifelong fan to the comic book medium. And of course a big career as a comic book artist, known for his amazing Spider-man comic book art.

And we take a closer look at Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends cartoon, and why it made such an impact. The show had some cutting edge animation, among the best of the history of the time, and more adult stories, such as the death of Uncle Ben that were landmarks in cartoon/animation history. And the Spider-Man/Amazing Friends cartoon actually had to fight the network censors to keep the story intact.

And we'll hear from Spider-Man/Amazing Friends cartoon producer Dennis Marks about the NBC interference. Again, this was a landmark in cartoon/animation history - it would take DC cartoons another 2 years to similarly address the death of Bruce Wayne's parents. In cartoon/animation history - these landmarks paved the way for the even more sophisticated cartoon stories that would come later in the 90s.

So Spider-Man/Amazing Friends cartoon was an important moment in comic book animation history. The show had an impact on the history of comic book art by making many future comic book artists into fans of the comic book medium. Yes, the Spider-Man cartoon hat brought so many fans to comic book art, even a future superstar artist like Todd Nauck.
