Jaby and Michael watch this moving story for the very first time! The Color Purple tells the powerful story of Celie, an African American woman in the early 20th century South, who overcomes decades of abuse, oppression, and separation from her sister, ultimately finding her voice and sense of self-worth.

The Color Purple is directed by Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Schindler's List). The film stars Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, Sister Act, The View) as Celie, Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Royal Tenenbaums, Dreamgirls) as Mister, and Oprah Winfrey (Beloved, Selma, The Butler) as Sofia. The cast also features Margaret Avery (Heat of the Night, The Jacksons: An American Dream, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins) as Shug Avery.
