Gandhi Ashram is a philanthropic and social welfare institution located in Noakhali district. After the ethnic conflict in 1946, Mahatma Gandhi traveled to Begamganj upazila of Noakhali district and on January 29, 1947, when Gandhi went to visit Jayag Bazar in Sonaimuri upazila, the then zamindar barrister Hemant Kumar Ghosh visited his He donated all the property to propagate Gandhiji's ideals and preserve Gandhiji's memory through a trust and established an ashram named after Gandhiji.
The trust was initially registered as the Ambika Kaliganga Charitable Trust, but in 1975 it was renamed the Gandhi Ashram Trust. The Gandhi Ashram also houses a museum named after Gandhiji, which houses more than 100 photographs of Gandhiji's Noakhali visit, used items and published writings.
After the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, the vision and purpose of Gandhi Ashram changed. In addition to charitable activities, activities aimed at the development and welfare of the poor and disadvantaged were taken up. At present, the main objective of the Gandhi Ashram Trust is to improve the quality of life. Presently the ashram as a trust is working on village development.
