Building a skid plate (especially for a gas tank)is one of those nice projects that you can see instant results from. In this case it also doubles as a nice break from doing the tedious work of wiring. I am using 16 gauge Stainless Steel. It's not necessary, it's just what I had left over after building my Gas Tank.
You can pretty much transfer the idea to any skid plate. Enjoy!
