In this video, I show off an unusual edible fleshy polypore called Berkcurtia persicina. Previously part of the chicken of the woods genus (Laetiporus), the so-called "white chicken mushroom" has a dark brown cap with tints of peach and a creamy, porous undersurface that stains brown quickly when handled or damaged.

I also share how to recognize destroying angel mushrooms, a deadly group of Amanita mushrooms that a common sight during the summer mushroom season in the eastern US. (Amanita species section Phalloideae). Destroying angels are white all over, with featureless smooth caps, a cup of tissue at the base, and a petite but resilient membranous ring on the stem. Join me for a quick overview of these two beautiful and distinct mushroom species!
