I recently visited the communist country of Cuba and spent several days exploring the vibrant city of Havana, with its stunning blue ocean views, world-renowned rum, and iconic cigars. However, behind the tourist facade lies a harsh reality: communism is far from ideal, and many Cubans struggle to survive due to low incomes and a deficient distribution system that fails to adequately support the population.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to connect with local people and learned firsthand about the challenges faced by ordinary Cubans. I was deeply shocked by the extent of their struggle and the stark disparities in wealth and opportunity within the country.

Despite its reputation as a tourist destination, Cuba’s political climate is repressive, with strict consequences for those who dare to criticize the government. It’s important to acknowledge the complexities of Cuba’s history and economy, even as we enjoy its cultural richness and natural beauty.
