After cutting down a huge spruce, I've decided to make 2x12 boards from it. In this episode I try freehand chainsaw milling for the first time. It went quite well and I am surprised at how fast and easy it is to make the cuts. After cutting a few slabs off the log to get it to the right thickness, I'm able to cut a 2x12 in 5-6 minutes after doing the initial scoring cut. Have this rough lumber around the cabin is going to be very useful! If I'm able to develop a better technique and clean up the cuts a bit then I should be able to use this lumber for the firewood shack. Perhaps a chainsaw mill will be better, I'll have to compare the two methods side by side.
God bless!
